Made for Cairn, as part of the A Town, A Forest, A Dungeon game jam.

Legend says that there is a forest on the edge of the world, with a single town standing proudly beside it. A forest whose breadth has not been measured and whose heart has not been found. A forest whose roots puncture primordial dungeons. A forest whose leaves and branches conceal protomythical powers. A forest whose wealth and riches within are unfathomably vast. A forest whose roots will one day cover the world.

Downrooted is a depthcrawl adventure for Cairn, by Yochai Gal. In the adventure, the PCs will be interacting with three interconnected elements; The town, the forest, and the dungeons.

The town of Brimton is a place of respite and resupply. It is from here that the PCs will stage their excursions into the forest. But it is also a place of opportunity and intrigue.

The forest of Erstwald is unnaturally created and sustained by dark magic. The PCs will have many reasons to explore its depths, such as wealth, power, old magic, and a great mystery.

The dungeons of the Shapers are ancient research stations built by an extinct people who vanished without a trace. Their experiments led them to discover a way to travel great distances in an instant, by striding through the dreams of a sleeping mycelium. 

Downrooted includes:

• A backwater town filled with interesting locations, characters, intrigue, and opportunities.
• A depthcrawl procedure with 36 forest locations, details, events, and encounters with a dark will fueling it all.
• Procedural dungeons to delve with 8 layouts, 6 themes, 40 rooms, and a civilisation shattering mystery.
• 21 fantastical animals, creatures, and foes.
• 20 mind bending relics and magical items.
