England 991 A.D.

The English army suffers a devastating defeat against the savage Danes at Maldon. King Æthelred, King of the English, decrees a tax shall be collected to pay these foreign invaders to leave our land. £10,000 must be raised lest the raiders plunder and pillage the land once more. However, there are those that have not or will not pay.

Danegeld is a one-shot tabletop roleplaying game about collecting tax to stop a Viking invasion. To play, all you need is this pamphlet, 2 twenty-sided dice, some paper, pencils, and some willing participants, preferably 3 or more of them.

The player characters are a band of tax collectors of various talent and repute sent to retrieve tribute from the reluctant few. Money is outstanding from three targets and they have a month before the return of the full Viking force. 

Time is short, but it is up to you and your group to save the Kingdom from devastation and ruin.
